An Assessment of the Foundations in Trikala City in XV-XVI Centuries

Abstract

             Foundations, one of the most important institutional structures of Islamic society, have been an effective means of lead to Muslims give charity for centuries. Foundations, contribute to civilization in many aspects administrative, economic and social such as civilization of cities, meeting the needs of the people, strengthening the bond between the ruler and the ruled. Like many Islamic states before him and in his own period, the Ottomans built numerous works with the foundation institution in the regions they ruled on three continents, they realized material and spiritual development and were instrumental in give charity. In this respect, the foundations have a great influence on the development of the city of Tirhala, which was conquered by the Ottomans in 1395, as in many different regions of the Ottoman Empire. For this purpose, in this study, the characteristics of the foundations in the city of Tirhala until the XVI century and their contributions to the city are evaluated.
